Leading the Smart Factory Worker explores the shifting workforce dynamics in Industry 4.0, where technical expertise and digital proficiency are essential for success. Participants will examine the significant changes in workforce design, employee experience, and talent management strategies needed to build and sustain a high-performing team in modern manufacturing. Drawing on research from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga and the Smart Factory Institute, this course provides the insights necessary to support, manage, and optimize a workforce capable of thriving in an increasingly digital and automated industry.

• Understand the concept of Industry 4.0 and its key components.
• Explore motivational theories & models applicable to the context of Industry 4.0.
• Identify strategies & techniques for motivating Smart Factory Workers, considering their desire for autonomy and preference or meaningful work.
• Understand the concept of talent poaching and explore strategies and best practices for talent retention.

7.2.2 Leading the Smart Factory Worker: Managing Change

• Design, implement, and evaluate workforce training programs that drive effective organizational change, utilizing metrics and tracking systems to assess impact and progress.
• Communicate change initiatives effectively to stakeholders, fostering understanding and buy-in.
• Manage and mitigate Industry 4.0 change anxiety and resistance within the workforce.
• Implement strategies to future-proof the manufacturing workforce against evolving industry trends and technologies.

• Develop strategies to attract and retain new talent in manufacturing by designing a modern Industry 4.0 brand identity and creating informative materials that showcase the industry and organization.
• Identify non-traditional talent sources that align with Industry 4.0 needs.
• Establish criteria for and implement selection processes that accurately match candidates to appropriate roles.
• Identify key knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics critical for Industry 4.0 roles.
